Chris Evans will say goodbye to Captain America after Avengers 4

It’s inevitable. Everything must eventually come to an end – and Chris Evans’ tenure as Captain America/Steve Rogers is no different.

Speaking recently in an interview, Evans confirmed the rumours that his time as the famous superhero was coming to an end and that Avengers 4 would mark his goodbye from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Many had thought that Avengers: Infinity War would mark the end of Steve Rogers – who you’ll remember gave up his Captain America shield at the end of Captain America: Civil War. And it was a pretty solid rumour considering Evans was only contracted for six Marvel films – so of course rumours began to spread that Steve Rogers would meet his end in Avengers: Infinity War.

Alas, he’s sticking around a little while longer at least, having recently extended his contract to appear in the yet untitled Avengers 4 release.

I had six films in my Marvel contract, so I could have said after the third Avengers I was done, but they wanted to make the third and fourth Avengers films as a two-parter. They said they had so many other characters to fit in – Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man – and couldn’t get them all into one movie.

Considering Marvel had original planned to release Avengers: Infinity War as a two-part blockbuster, it’s perhaps not such a surprise that Evans wishes to stick around for that fourth Avengers film as it would allow him to “wrap everything up” in regards to his character.

Will Steve Rogers meet a grisly end? Or will he pass on his legacy to a new character? We’ll have to wait and see. At least we have Avengers: Infinity War to look forward to next year.
