Get ready to see more of Professor Dumbledore because the recently announced sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will bring the much loved character back to life.
The famous Hogwarts Headmaster will make several appearances alongside Newt Scamander, played by Eddie Redmayne, in the 2018 sequel.
Warner Bros is so convinced it’s new franchise will be a box office success that it’s already confirmed Johnny Depp for a leading role in ‘Fantastic Beasts 2‘, despite the first installment yet to hit cinemas.
Dumbledore is such a fundamental part of J.K. Rowling‘s timeless world, that it was almost certain the character would appear in her new adaptation – though who will play the part of a young Albus Dumbledore is still to be decided according to director David Yates;
“In the second movie Dumbledore comes back. He’s got a couple of good scenes with Newt… We’re discussing who would play Dumbledore, any suggestions would be good. [Laughs]”
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them takes place in 1920’s New York, almost 70 years before the events depicted in the Harry Potter series, and considering Dumbledore became Headmaster during the 50’s, there’s a whole chunk of time in the characters history just waiting to be explored.
The first film in the new Fantastic Beasts series hits cinemas this week and is on track for an impressive £70 million weekend – though with Johnny Depp and Dumbledore joining the sequel, we can expect the sequel to far surpass it’s predecessor.
