Looks like Edge of Tomorrow will be less about tomorrow and more about yesterday as director Doug Liman confirms he’s making a prequel to the box office hit starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt.
It’s definitely a surprise for fans expecting a sequel after the last film saw time reset itself when Cruise managed to defeat the aliens hiding below The Louvre in Paris – in hindsight though, it actually makes a great deal of sense in terms of expanding the franchise story.
Speaking with Collider, Doug Liman explained the rational behind his move to make prequel;
“That is the only sequel that I’m considering doing, and it’s because first of all the story is so amazing — much better than the original film, and I loved and loved the original film — and second of all, it’s a sequel that’s a prequel…”
A follow up to Edge of Tomorrow has been on the cards ever since the original film debuted to overwhelming critical praise and a monster opening weekend that eventually saw the sci-fi blockbuster take in over $400 million.
So far we can expect Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt to return to their unfinished action love-story, however no official news has been released regarding casting, or story for that matter, so we could even see a brand new cast join Edge of Tomorrow 2.
